Audit trail
An audit trail is an automatic record of every change made in your software: who did it, what changed, and when.
An audit trail logs activity inside a system so you can see exactly what happened after the fact. In a veterinary PIMS, that means every record edit, every dispensed medication, and every appointment change is stamped with the user and the time.
Audit trails matter for compliance, for resolving disputes, and for trust. If a number looks wrong, you can trace how it got that way.
OpenVPM records selected high-risk workflow and operational events, including controlled-substance activity. It does not claim a complete audit of every field mutation; clinics must validate the available records against their own requirements.
